Small brush fire breaks out near Acton
ACTON, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - A small fire scorched about 1 1/2 acres of brush in the Acton area Friday, briefly threatening one structure before crews halted the forward spread of the blaze.
The fire was reported just before 10:30 a.m. amid relatively light winds in the 8600 block of Soledad Canyon Road, according to county Fire Inspector Gustavo Medina.
"It's burning in heavy brush down by a riverbed and winds are at 5 miles per hour right now,'' Medina said at the onset of the fire.
One structure was briefly threatened, but shortly after 11 a.m., fire officials reported that the forward progress of the fire had been halted. County fire crews, along with firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service, were expected to remain at the scene into the afternoon fully drowning the fire and ensuring no hotspots erupt.
Two water-dropping helicopters were among the resources sent to help douse the flames, Medina said.
No injuries were reported.
