12 injured after Metro bus collides with big rig in South El Monte
SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif. - Multiple people were injured after a Metro bus collided with a parked big rig carrying lumber in South El Monte on Wednesday morning.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Klingerman Street and Rosemead Boulevard around 6 a.m.
Fire authorities later confirmed 12 people were injured and 7 of them required medical transport, including the bus driver. The extent of the patients' injuries is unknown.
"Metro extends its sympathies to those injured and thanks the LA County Sheriff’s Department, the San Gabriel Police Department, the El Monte Police Department and the LA County Fire Department for their quick response in assisting everyone. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation into what caused the accident," a Metro spokesperson said in a statement to FOX 11.
The northbound lanes remain closed in the area.
