SOUTH GATE (FOX 11 / CNS) - Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday ordered flags at the state Capitol lowered to half-staff in honor of an Army soldier from South Gate killed in Afghanistan.
Cpl. Joseph Maciel, 20, died Saturday in an "apparent insider attack'' in Tarin Kowt District, Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan, according to the Pentagon.
His death remains under investigation.
Maciel had been assigned to 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, of the 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Benning, Georgia.
The Taliban released a statement saying an Afghan soldier fired on U.S. troops in the province of Uruzgan, Reuters reported.
