Summer blast brings high heat, increased fire danger
Weather officials are encouraging Southern California residents and tourists to limit their time outdoors.
LOS ANGELES - After the departure of "June Gloom," it appears "July Fry" is in full force.
Tuesday marked the beginning of a days-long heat wave in Southern California with temperatures expected to rise going into the weekend. It's the second heat wave of the season after the first struck over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The peak of the excessive heat will strike Friday through Sunday, the National Weather Service said. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and to stay out of the sun in air-conditioned areas as much as possible.

Los Angeles County
An Excessive Heat Watch goes into effect in Los Angeles County in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys from 10 a.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Sunday.
The brutal heat will also beam down in the Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys with days of triple-digit heat. The following weather alerts apply to the area:
- Heat Advisory from 10 a.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday
- Excessive Heat Warning from 10 a.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Monday
- Excessive Heat Watch from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday

Spend some time in the pool as a brutal heat wave strikes down across Southern California.
Inland Empire
A Heat Advisory was upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning that remains in effect through 8 p.m. Tuesday. This impacts several areas of San Bernardino and Riverside counties including the cities of Moreno Valley, Corona, Riverside, Ontario, and Victorville. Forecasters are expecting temperatures 5-10 degrees above average for July. Temperatures have the potential to climb up to 112 degrees, and up to 123 degrees in the Palm Springs area.
The brutal heat is expected to intensify Saturday through Monday and is looking to last into next week.
For parents with children at home, there are options that won't break the bank. Community pools, like the Fontana Park Aquatic Center, offer splash and recreational swimming starting at $5 for the little ones, and $3 for seniors. There are plenty of classes, at prices way below private lesson locations.

Ventura County
The heat wave will reach its peak over the weekend. An Excessive Heat Watch will go into effect in Ventura County from 10 a.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Sunday with temperatures reaching up to 107 degrees. This includes the areas of Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Ojai Valley, and the Santa Susana Mountains.
