Armed man holds standoff in rideshare

A man is in custody after he allegedly took over a ridesharing car in Mount Washington. The police standoff lasted more than three hours.

An armed ride share passenger who was barricaded inside a vehicle near a Metro train station in Los Angeles' Mount Washington area Wednesday was taken into custody after an hour-long standoff with authorities.

Officers responded to the 4500 block of Marmion Way around 7:38 a.m. after a ride share company reported a passenger inside a vehicle may be armed, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle was out of the car, leaving the suspect alone in the vehicle.

Authorities were in a standoff with a rideshare passenger who was reportedly armed and refused to exit the car.

SWAT arrived on scene at around 10:30 a.m. to assist the LAPD. The suspect surrendered around 10:55 a.m., according to police.

No injuries were reported.

Because the situation was happening near the Metro A Blue Line Southwest Museum Station, trains had stopped running between the Highland Park and Heritage Square stations. Metro provided buses to shuttle passengers between the stations. Train service resumed around 11 a.m., with some residual delays reported, according to the transit agency.
