What big retail stores could look like in a new California

In A New California, maybe you're anxiously awaiting the reopening of two giant retailers.

One is known for its swoosh. The other is known for its iconic fruit symbol.

Apple and Nike both released details this week about what customers can expect when their doors reopen.

In a letter to its customers, Apple says almost 100 of its stores have reopened globally. Its stores in Greater China have been open for months.

The company saying "In every store, we're focused on limiting occupancy and giving everybody lots of room, and renewing our focus on one-on-one, personalized service at the genius bar and throughout the store."

Apple customers can expect a temperature check at the door.

Also, face coverings will be required for employees and customers.

If you don't bring one, Apple says it will provide one.

Lastly, employees will be conducting enhanced deep cleaning in high traffic areas.

Similarly, Nike reports 100% of its Nike-owned stores in Greater China have reopened.

Yet as of May 14th, only 5% of retail locations in North America were open with reduced hours.

The “Just Do It” company says to ensure a safe retail environment, customers can expect social distancing and traffic control measures, increased product and store sanitization, as well as employees wearing a face covering.

Aside from the safety measures, Nike stores are expected to reopen with an increased emphasis on digital technology, including in-store use of the Nike app to facilitate contactless transactions.

Nike president and CEO John Donahoe says in light of COVID-19, "Even more so, consumers around the world are recognizing the need for an active and healthy lifestyle and sport is now more meaningful than ever."

That has translated to a surge in Nike online sales during the pandemic.
