Howling winds whip across Southern California

Strong winds blew through Southern California Monday, knocking down trees and lampposts.

"Damaging winds could blow down large objects such as trees and power lines. Power outages are possible," the National Weather Service advised earlier in the day. "Travel could be difficult, especially for drivers of high-profile vehicles."

In the Inland Empire, a High Wind Warning was issued for Riverside and San Bernardino counties before eventually expiring.

The High Wind Warning also came and went for the western San Gabriel Mountains, the Highway 14 Corridor and along the Grapevine.

A wind advisory also came and went in the western Antelope Valley until expiring 10 p.m. Monday.

In the Santa Monica Mountains and the Santa Clarita and western San Fernando valleys, a high-wind warning was issued before eventually expiring Monday evening.

Similar advisories were temporarily issued for the Malibu, Pacific Palisades and Topanga areas before expiring.

A wind advisory was issued Monday for Orange County.
