DETROIT (WJBK) - The woman suspected to have pulled the trigger in a gas station shooting seen in high definition surveillance video has been arrested, Detroit police confirms to FOX 2.
The shooting happened at the Mobil gas station on Fenkell Avenue near Greenfield Road Sunday Sunday around 4:30 a.m. Police say the shooting happened as a result of a heated argument.
That Mobil gas station is one of eight Project Green Light gas stations, meaning it is in a partnership with the Detroit Police Department to crack down on violence. The cameras at Project Greenlight locations livestream video directly to DPD headquarters and are monitored 24 hours a day.
Thanks to Project Green Light, Detroit police have these high definition images from the shooting on Sunday, and say the images helped find the suspect very quickly. Detroit Police Chief James Craig says within two hours of getting the images to the media, they had the female suspect in custody.
The female suspect's name has not been given, but Chief Craig says she was arrested while she was driving about a mile away from her home. Someone recognized her and called police.
"Huge success, exactly what we had hoped for," says Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody of Project Green Light. "We're going to see you, and we're going to see you clearly."
The high-def cameras are currently at 11 businesses in Detroit, and include everywhere from gas stations to liquor stores and McDonald's. Current Project Greenlight partners include:
