Suspect in custody after assaulting, shooting at San Bernardino County Sheriff´s deputy

What started as a domestic disturbance call, turned into a heart stopping fight between a suspect and a San Bernardino County Sheriff´s deputy.

Officers were called to the 13000 block of Cabazon Ct. Wednesday around 8:25 a.m. after receiving a call from a woman saying she wanted her son removed from her home.

The sheriff’s office says Deputy Meagan Forsberg was one of the first to arrive on the scene and contacted the suspect, Ari Young, outside.

Officials say Young became combative and began assaulting Deputy Forsberg, punching her in the head and face. Officials say Forsberg fell to the ground and soon after a deputy-involved shooting occurred. According to a release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office Young grabbed the deputy’s gun and shot at her. Officials say she ran for cover while Young continued to fire.

Several other deputies arrived to the scene and ordered Young to drop the weapon; but when he resisted a second deputy-involved shooting happened. Young was struck and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Luckily, Deputy Forsberg was not struck by gunfire, but was taken to a hospital with injuries sustained from the altercation.

Parts of the incident was recorded on video. Esteban Alvarez posted the video to social media. In his post he says he was awakened by the commotion outside his window.

In the video the suspect appears to raise his hands as deputies pull into the cul de sac, but then you can hear another shot. The tree blocks a clear view of the suspect, so it’s unclear if he lowered his hands.

The sheriff’s department says the video is being reviewed.
