Suspect killed, officer hurt in officer-involved shooting in Garden Grove
GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - A suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning in Garden Grove and the officer was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The shooting occurred after officers arrived at the scene of a traffic crash near Harbor Boulevard and Trask Avenue about 1:25 a.m., according to Lt. Ray Bex of the Garden Grove Police Department.
"Upon contacting one of the parties involved in the collision an altercation between that subject and an officer occurred resulting in an officer-involved shooting," Bex said.
Both the officer and the suspect were taken to a hospital, where the suspect died.
Garden Grove police detectives and investigators from the Orange County District Attorney's office investigated the circumstances of the shooting, he said.
The name of the suspect was not immediately available. The vehicle involved in the crash was reported stolen Wednesday morning by Automax HB in Santa Ana, Garden Grove police said.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area until further notice.
