Shooting involving deputy in Redlands

An investigation is underway after a suspect was shot by a sheriff's deputy in Redlands Monday morning.

The Brief

    • A trespassing suspect was shot by a sheriff's deputy in San Bernardino Monday.
    • It happened near the Nevada Street Metrolink, according to authorities.
    • The suspect was hospitalized in unknown condition.

REDLANDS, Calif. - An investigation is underway after a suspect was shot by a San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy Monday morning, according to officials. 

Just before 7:30 a.m. employees with Metrolink reported a trespasser on the tracks at the Nevada Street station. Responding officers found the suspect on the tracks, and that's when the "lethal force encounter" happened. 

The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment; that person's condition is unknown. 

The deputy was not injured. 

Northbound lanes on California Street were closed between Redlands and the 10 Freeway during the investigation but have since reopened. 

No other information was immediately available.
