An 18-year-old man was in custody Saturday following the stabbing death of a 17-year-old girl with whom he was acquainted in Azusa, authorities said.
Officers from the Azusa Police Department responded at 10 p.m. Friday to the 300 block of North Soldano Avenue, near Third Street and west of the Azusa High School West Campus, to an assault-with-a-deadly-weapon call, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which is investigating the death.
Arriving officers found the girl suffering from stab wounds. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name was not released due to her age, sheriff's officials said.
The motive for the stabbing was not disclosed. Both the suspect and the victim were Azusa residents. Homicide detectives plan to present the facts of the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration, officials said.
Anyone with information about the stabbing was asked to call the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Callers who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or send tips to lacrimestoppers.org.
