Teen wounded in El Sereno officer-involved shooting

An officer involved shooting in El Sereno sent a teen to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

Cell phone video shows him shirtless on the ground, with a policeman standing over him on Turquoise Street after LAPD confirms an officer shot him Thursday afternoon.

Neighbors say they heard a series of gunshots "Four gunshots, very loud and very close," says Krystle Salas.

Police say around 3 o'clock, Hollenbeck officers stopped the 18-year old, but...it's unclear why.

Neighbor Bertha Hernandez says she saw the confrontation unfold

"They pull him over and they ask for his ID, he didn't have ID. So they tried to pat him down and he made a wrong move and they felt threatened," said Hernandez.

It's unknown why the interaction escalated.

But police say they did recover a gun at the scene, although it's unclear if it was loaded, or if the teen threatened them with it.

LAPD say he was taken to a local hospital. "He's in surgery right now, so I'm waiting to hear if he made it or not," said Hernandez.

LAPD says the man is out of surgery and in the ICU.

No officer was hurt in the shooting.
