Ticketing starts Wednesday for distracted walkers in Montclair

Driving and texting can land you some serious fines.

The city of Montclair is taking that a step further.

Starting Wednesday, anyone caught using their mobile devices while walking across the streets of Montclair will be fined.

That includes texting, talking, watching videos. Anything having to do with mobile devices.

The ordinance was passed in January.

Lawmakers saying distracted pedestrians are an accident waiting to happen.

Warning signs have been posted at intersections.

After that, it's $200 dollars for a second violation within a year.

And then it goes up to $500 dollars
