Ty Dolla $ign following in his father's footsteps

LOS ANGELES (FOX 11) - Call Ty Dolla $ign a triple threat. He's a writer, producer, and singer.

He makes clear he is not a rapper!

Ty prefers to be called, a musician. He plays a number of instruments and is a big fan of real instruments in his music. Ty picked up that passion from his father, a member of the band 70s and 80s funk band Lakeside.

Ty says his father would go on tour and he would literally break the locks of dad's music studio to get on the instruments and equipment.

Ty Dolla $ign is of the new generation of popular music. The lyrics of his videos can be raunchy, raw, and sexual with blends and deletes to clean up the radio versions.

Ty says even his parents did a double take on the lyrics, but he says he's grown. He says it's a different time. He says his parents then saw 20,000 people in concerts singing every lyric. Now his father even jumps on stage to perform.

This multi talent is now in demand in many genres. He has a song with everyone from YG to Fifth Harmony, to Wiz Khalifa and The Weeknd, to Babyface.
