Uber passenger killed crossing center divider on 101 Freeway in Encino
LOS ANGELES - An Uber passenger was struck and killed after he jumped over a center divider on the 101 Freeway in Encino, officials said.
California Highway Patrol received a call from an Uber driver who reported his two passengers were arguing and engaging in a fistfight. The rideshare driver reportedly picked up the two men from West Hollywood and were interfering with his driving.
The Uber driver stopped the vehicle when one of the men involved in the altercation got out of the car and jumped over the center divider when he was struck by a passing CHP patrol car at 3:40 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the 101 Freeway near the White Oak exit, CHP said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Uber driver told officials he was unaware the man exited his vehicle.
A Sigalert was issued closing all eastbound lanes at White Oak Avenue for six hours.
The lanes reopened by 9:40 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
