More fires pop up across Los Angeles

New fires popped up in the Hollywood Hills and Studio City as Los Angeles County continues to deal with several other massive fires forcing its residents to evacuate.

Due to extreme fire conditions and strong winds, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk closed for the second day in a row on Thursday, Jan. 9. 

The news went against park officials' initial estimate that the park would reopen after initially shutting down on Wednesday.

"We anticipate a full reopening of our destination, tomorrow, January 9, 2025 at our normal operating hours pending assessment of the situation. Stay tuned for important information regarding ticket redemption for ticketed guests affected by today’s closure. The safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority," park officials said in a statement before deciding to close the park for Jan. 9.

Firefighters deal with dwindling water supply

Some firefighters were seen trying to put out fires using water from swimming pools.

The news comes as Los Angeles County deals with several massive fires forcing Angelenos to evacuate.

The Palisades Fire has burned over 17,000 acres as of Wednesday night. More than 1,000 structures were destroyed and/or damaged and thousands of people were forced to evacuate.

In the Altadena area, a fast-moving brush fire in the Eaton Canyon area exploded in size overnight, topping 10,000 acres by Wednesday while claiming two lives and destroying more than 100 structures while prompting school closures throughout the area.

LA County doesn't have enough fire personnel to handle current crisis

LA County officials said they do not have enough fire personnel to handle the current crisis in LA County.

In Sylmar, the Hurst Fire burned 700 acres and triggered multiple evacuations for the area north of the 210 Freeway from Roxford Street to the 5 and 14 freeway split.  

In Van Nuys, firefighters quickly gained control of a fire that sparked early Wednesday morning in the Sepulveda Basin. The Woodley Fire burned 30 acres at last check, according to Cal Fire.
