Ventura school district announces school closures until April due to coronavirus
VENTURA, Calif. - The Ventura Unified School District announced that it's closing all Ventura Unified schools beginning Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 10 due to coronavirus concerns.
The closures include all Ventura Unified School District TK-12 grade schools, VUSD preschool programs, VUSD supported after-school programs and Ventura Adult and Continuing Education.
"This closure is in support of the recommendations from public health officials to encourage “social distancing” to slow the spread of the virus. It is strongly recommended that students stay home during the closure as much as possible and do not gather in public places. We hope to reopen on Monday, April 13, but that decision will depend on the circumstances at the time. We will reevaluate this plan and provide updates to our families no later than Friday, March 27," said a letter from Superintendent Dr. Roger Rice Sabrena Rodriguez.
Officials also said they're canceling all school district-sponsored events and travel including field trips, visual and performing arts events, PTA/PTO sponsored events, dances, and all athletic events, including practices through April 10, including all non-VUSD events and activities scheduled to occur on any VUSD property.
