Veteran Inglewood police officer facing federal cocaine trafficking charges
LOS ANGELES - A veteran Inglewood cop is facing cocaine trafficking charges.
According to an announcement from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), authorities arrested 45-year-old John Baca, a 21-year veteran of the Inglewood Police Department on October 21. Baca is accused of delivering cocaine to a person cooperating with law enforcement back on April 29, according to the DOJ. Baca also allegedly delivered about one kilogram of cocaine to the same cooperating witness at a different meetup on May 4 and is accused of selling the drugs for $22,000 in cash.
Baca has a Dec. 14 trial date in Santa Ana, DOJ said. If convicted, Baca could face a 5-year mandatory minimum prison sentence and a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison.
Prior to the arrest, Baca was also Inglewood PD's union representative, DOJ said.
