VIDEO: Huntington Beach cops love hopscotch

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (FOX 11) - Apparently, cops love hopscotch. A video showing a Huntington Beach police officer playing hopscotch with a young homeless girl who had been living in a car with her mother is going viral.

The video -- posted on Facebook by the Huntington Beach Police Department Wednesday -- had more than 633,000 views as of Thursday evening.

This morning an officer checked on a suspicious occupied vehicle in the area of Graham and Edinger. During his investigation he learned the people in the vehicle were a mother and her 11 year old daughter and they had been living out of their car. The officer contacted our Homeless Task Force to help arrange housing. As the officer worked on housing arrangements with the mother, another officer on scene, Officer Pricer, began displaying his expertise in hopscotch to the daughter. #Copslovehopscotch

Officers responding to a report of a suspicious car discovered the 11-year-old girl and her mother living in the vehicle.

While his partner Scott Marsh made arrangements for the family to receive shelter, Officer Zach Pricer decided to help distract her and brighter her day by drawing a hopscotch game-board on the ground and showing her his moves.

The Facebook post was tagged with #Copslovehopscotch.

Pricer spoke to FOX 11 after the video went viral, who said he didn't realize his partner had started recording on his cell phone.

"Usually, when you're contacted by police... It's not good. It's not fun for kids. It's scary," said Pricer.

He also said he received some good-natured ribbing from friends and colleagues.

"They thought the sidewalk was gonna break. It looked like the Incredible Hulk playing hopscotch. I'm not exactly what you would call graceful," he joked.

And while many are calling the police veteran and former Marine a hero, Pricer says it's "just part of the job."
