Waymo vehicle vandalized during street takeover near Beverly Center

A Waymo self-driving vehicle was vandalized during a street takeover near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. The incident, which occurred early Saturday morning, is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department as they seek to identify those responsible.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. at the intersection of 3rd Street and La Cienega Boulevard, where a crowd gathered for the illegal takeover, according to the LAPD.

Reports from the scene indicate that the Waymo vehicle—a Jaguar electric SUV—was traveling eastbound on 3rd Street when it was surrounded by bystanders who reportedly vandalized and destroyed it.

Video footage of the incident appears to show the vehicle being stripped of its door, windows shattered, and its Jaguar emblems removed. The license plate was also damaged, and the extent of the vandalism required the vehicle to be towed from the scene.

The Waymo was unoccupied when it was vandalized.
