Wheelchair bound man struck and killed in Palmdale
PALMDALE, Calif. - An elderly man in a wheelchair was struck and killed Saturday night in Palmdale.
The collision happened just before 8 p.m. on the 2200 block of East Palmdale Boulevard.
Investigators from the Palmdale Sheriff's Station says a 2003 Nissan was driving eastbound on Palmdale Boulevard and did not see the 71-year-old pedestrian in his motorized wheelchair crossing the street.
Officials say the pedestrian suffered a head injury and was pronounced dead on scene. The 31-year-old male driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Evidence collected from the scene shows the pedestrian was crossing mid-block and was not in the crosswalk, the sheriff’s station said.
It appears drugs and/or alcohol are not a factor in the collision.
