Whitney High School in Cerritos placed on lockdown after suspect made ransom demand
CERRITOS, Calif. - Whitney High School in Cerritos was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon as authorities investigated reports of a possible bomb threat.
Deputies responded around 12:50 p.m. to the campus at 16800 Shoemaker after a suspect called the Cerritos Sheriff's Station and made a ransom demand, according to sheriff's officials.
The suspect threatened to detonate explosives at the campus unless a $10,000 ransom was paid, officials said.
Students were escorted to Cerritos Park East located at 13150 E. 166th St., where they were released to their parents.
Multiple law enforcement agencies searched the campus.
No injuries were reported.
