Woman killed in Lake Forest deputy-involved shooting after reported burglary
LAKE FOREST, Calif. - A woman in her 20s was killed in a deputy-involved shooting following a burglary call in Lake Forest early Wednesday morning, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.
A resident inside a home located in the 22000 block of Loumont Drive near the intersection of Muirlands Boulevard and Ridge Route Dr. reported a burglary in progress just after 1 a.m.
Arriving Orange County deputies located a woman across the street from the home where the burglary call was made. The suspect was holding what appeared to be a gun, the sheriff’s department said.
The young woman was given numerous commands to drop the weapon when the deputy-involved shooting occurred.
She was struck by gunfire and was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead around 6:15 a.m., the sheriff's office said.
A gun was recovered from the scene.
The name of the woman involved in the deputy-involved shooting has not been released.
The investigation will be conducted by the Orange County District Attorney.
