Woman shot dead behind the wheel, passenger wounded in South LA

A woman was killed and a man was wounded in a double shooting in South Los Angeles Tuesday morning, police said.

The Los Angeles Police Department received a shots fired call just before 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of Slauson and Western avenues in South LA’s Harvard Park neighborhood.

Investigators said a vehicle with out-of-state plates was stopped at a red light when the suspect pulled up next to them and started shooting.

Arriving LAPD officers declared a woman in her 20s dead at the scene. She was the driver while her passenger, a male in his 20s, was taken to an area hospital.

The passenger is alert and is expected to survive, police said.

The intersection remains closed while police conduct the investigation.

A description of the suspect was not available.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the LAPD.
