Armed man in Woodland Hills shot, killed by police gunfire
LOS ANGELES - An armed man was shot and killed by Los Angeles Police Department officers at a motel in the San Fernando Valley late Sunday night, authorities said.
Officers were called to Vantage Point Inn, located in the 21700 block of Ventura Boulevard, between Topanga Canyon Blvd. and Canoga Avenue, in Woodland Hills around 10:15 p.m. The department received multiple 911 calls from guests who reported a man was acting erratically, and that he was naked and breaking the hotel windows.
As officers were on their way to the scene, they received more calls from guests who said he went from breaking windows to firing a gun.
The suspect was located as soon as officers arrived at the scene. However, what happened next is unclear.
Video from the scene indicates a short time after one of the officers requested help, shots were fired.
SWAT officers were called to the motel during the standoff and hours later, the suspect was found dead.
No officers were hurt in the incident.
It’s unclear what caused the suspect's bizarre behavior and officials said they would conduct toxicology testing.
The identity of the suspect is unknown.
The police shooting is being investigating by multiple agencies and the LA County District Attorney's Office.
