Would-be robber killed, store owner wounded in Canyon Country liquor store shootout

Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were investigating a deadly shooting that occurred between a suspected robber and store owner at a liquor store in the Canyon Country area Sunday night. 

The shooting happened at around 8:20 p.m. Sunday in the 19900 block of Golden Valley Road, near Sierra Highway, sheriff’s officials said. 

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Station received a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. 

Arriving deputies discovered the suspect had intended to rob the store shortly after entering. The suspected robber and store owner exchanged gunfire and both men were struck, sheriff’s officials said. 

Authorities say the would-be robber was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The investigation is ongoing and no further information was released.
