The man and woman died at the scene, Riverside Police officer Ryan Railsback said. Their names were withheld, pending notification of their relatives. Police were unsure of the relationship between the man and woman.
The security guard was hospitalized in stable condition and was expected to survive, Railsback said. His name was not released.
The club owner told FOX 11 that before the shooting, the man and women were kicked out of the establishment because the man was reportedly acting belligerent.
The pair left in their vehicle and drove around before returning to the area where they reportedly shot the security guard in the leg from inside their vehicle.
The security guard said he returned fire, killing the man and the woman. The vehicle crashed into a building across the street from the night club.
A musician who was playing inside the nightclub told FOX 11 that the security guard suffered a leg wound and the musician used his belt as a tourniquet to slow the bleeding.
Roughly 30 people were inside the night club celebrating its reopening this weekend at the time of the shooting.
Riverside police did not immediately comment.
