Chad Carr, boy fighting rare brain cancer has died

(WJBK) - Chad Carr, the Michigan boy who was fighting a rare brain cancer has died, his family says on their social media platforms. Chad, also known as "Chad Tough", is the grandson of former University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr. He was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) in September of 2014. Since then, he has undergone several exhaustive medical treatments.

"At 1:21 p.m. today, exactly 15 months since his DIPG diagnosis, Chad gained his angel wings. He left the earth peacefully and is now running and jumping in heaven. It is well with his soul," the Facebook post says.

Funeral arrangements for Chad are pending. He was 5 years old.

Nearly 24 hours earlier, his family shared another update, saying his breathing wasn't doing well and that he was sleeping a lot.

"We actually feel better when he is sleeping because he gets so frustrated trying to talk to us. It is really difficult," the post says.

News outlets across the country have followed his journey. Wigs and Wishes surprised Chad this summer with a beach in his backyard, as the family wasn't able to make the trip. Chad even got his own theme song from Ariel, Zoey & Eli Engelbert.
