LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles native and former NFL star DeSean Jackson is on the verge of becoming a college football head coach.
According to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel, Jackson and Delaware State are finalizing a deal to make him the next coach.
Thamel said in his report that it was Jackson's dream to coach at a historically Black university (HBCU). The news comes a little more than a year after the former NFL All-Pro announced his retirement as a player.
Known for his speed during his playing days, "Jaccpot" was considered one of the league's electrifying players as a wide receiver and as a returner. The former Long Beach Polytechnic star was named Pro Bowler three times – 2009, 2010 and 2013 – and earned a second-team All-Pro nod as a punt returner in 2009.
Over the course of his 15-year NFL career, Jackson played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders (then known as Redskins), Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens. He hung up his cleats for good after signing a one-day contract in November 2023 to retire a Philadelphia Eagle.
Prior to the NFL, Jackson played college football with the California Golden Bears.
