LOS ANGELES (FOX 11) - An estimated 33,000 customers remained without power Wednesday morning in Los Angeles County after a major windstorm moved through Southern California.
Outages were down to 33,000 customers as of 5:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). The outage number peaked overnight at 42,000 customers.
Crews worked overnight to restore service in the neighborhoods affected by the wind related outages, which included portions of the Hollywood Hills, South Los Angeles, Koreatown, Mid-Wilshire, Fairfax, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Mar Vista, Wilmington and more.
Thousands of Southern California Edison customers outside of Los Angeles were also in the dark, according to the website.
Emergency crews responded to multiple calls Tuesday night of tree branches falling on cars, downed power lines, traffic light outages and trees falling on homes. Drivers should treat any traffic light outage as a four-way stop. You should only proceed when you know that all other turning and approaching vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians will also be stopping.
In San Gabriel, a downed power pole closed the area of San Marino Avenue and Broadway and surrounding streets, and crews worked to remove a tree that fell onto a house in the 14000 block of Benbow Street in Baldwin Park.
In Mid-City, a tree fell onto the westbound 10 Freeway just before the Crenshaw Boulevard, causing traffic delays.
A High Wind Warning is in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday for Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. A Wind Advisory will remain in effect from 11 a.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday.
Wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour are expected into Wednesday morning in some areas, according to the National Weather Service. Winds will be strongest through the 5 Freeway corridor, forecasters said.
