Another shark spotted off Dana Point; beachgoers put on alert

Another shark was sighted in Dana Point waters Wednesday, prolonging an advisory to beachgoers to consider the risk before jumping into the ocean.

Orange County lifeguards spotted a shark about 10:45 a.m. about 100 yards off shore at Strands Beach, said Marisa O'Neil, a spokeswoman for OC Parks. The size and species could not be identified.

Late Tuesday afternoon, a 10-foot shark was spotted about 300 yards off the coast of Salt Creek Point, prompting lifeguards to get everyone out of the water, O'Neil said.

An advisory that was already in place at Salt Creek and Strands beaches and had been expected to eclipse at 3 p.m. will be extended for another 18 to 24 hours as a result of the latest sighting, O'Neil said.
