Armed woman killed in Long Beach officer-involved shooting
LONG BEACH (FOX 11 / CNS) - An armed woman was killed Thursday in an officer-involved shooting in Long Beach, according to police.
No officers were injured in the shooting, which occurred in the area of Studebaker Road and Spring Street, according to Marlene Arrona of the Long Beach Police Department.
Police went to the scene just before midnight on a call of a person with a gun and shots fired, involving "two parties that were known to each other,'' Arrona said. Reports from the scene indicated the dispute was domestic in nature.
"Officers arrived within minutes, encountered an armed female adult suspect, and an officer-involved shooting occurred,'' Arrona said.
It wasn't immediately clear what prompted officers to fire.
"The male adult victim and the suspect are known to each other,'' Arrona said. "There are no outstanding suspects involved in this incident.''
Officers administered life-saving measures on the woman until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived, Arrona said.
Authorities withheld the name of the woman, who died at the scene. No other injuries were reported. A handgun was found at the location.
The man involved in the incident is an off-duty California Highway Patrol officer, authorities told FOX 11's Gigi Graciette.
Studebaker Road, between Spring Street and Wardlow Road, was closed for the investigation.
