Dodger Nation reacts to epic NLDS win at Oracle Park

Hours of incredible tension broken by brief moments of ecstasy is the best way to describe what it was like to be inside Oracle Park Thursday night.

FOX 11’s Phil Shuman was able to witness the incredible game as a reporter and as a longtime fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Shuman remembers the feeling inside the Giants’ house in the ninth-inning when Justin Turner got hit by a pitch. Gavin Lux followed it up with a hit and fans just knew that Cody Bellinger, who struggled so much this season, was up to the challenge. Bellinger ended up delivering the game-winning RBI.

During that point of the nail-biting game, the relatively small number of Dodgers fans, in comparison to thousands of Giants fans dressed in orange and black, went wild.

When "Mad Max" Scherzer came out of the bullpen to pitch in the ninth inning, Dodger fans had to be feeling good. Shuman said he was fortunate enough to have an actual seat in the press box behind home plate.

The final strike was a controversial call and replays seem to indicate that the battery did not actually swing, which some fans say is a terrible way for the Giants to end the game and believe the umpire should be held accountable.

Within the next half hour, Shuman recalls talking with overjoyed fans from Southern California who made the trip, talking with Max [Scherzer] and Mookie Betts, listening to the celebrations, and figuring out travel plans for Atlanta for the next series; the National League Championships.

Whether you’re born a Dodgers fan or have become one, fans adore this group of guys led by Dave Roberts, who always seems to make the right moves and knows how to motivate multi-millionaire athletes.

Now,  Shuman is off to the East Coast for the first two games in Atlanta before the series returns to Dodger Stadium.
