Dog dies in San Fernando house fire

A dog died in a house fire Monday in San Fernando, but no other injuries were reported.

An investigation was underway into the cause of the fire, which broke out about 3:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Hewitt Street near South Brand Boulevard.

It took 32 firefighters about 15 minutes to extinguish the flames, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

No one was home, but a neighbor heard a smoke alarm go off and called 911, allowing firefighters to respond quickly and save all surrounding structures, Prange said.
