Food app driver shot in apparent random attack while delivering order

A DoorDash driver is recovering after being shot while delivering food in La Mirada.

Officials believe the driver was randomly targeted by a gang.

The victim, identified only as 30-year-old Britney, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and was reportedly treated for gunshot wounds, said Sgt. Rodney Gutierrez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Norwalk Station.

The woman told deputies from the Norwalk Station at approximately 11:40 p.m. Tuesday she was delivering food in La Mirada and had been followed for several blocks by a silver sedan. When she delivered an order in the 13000 block of El Moro near Foster Road, the suspects allegedly fired at her several times. One of the bullets struck her in the abdomen, Gutierrez said.

The victim was able to drive to Buena Park in Orange County and call deputies and her mom. The suspects drove away, westbound on Foster Road.

"She went to go do an order, she picked up the order to take it to the people and she was shot. They shot her," said the victim’s mother Sharonda.

"I feel so bad, I had not called to order food. I think she dropped off food here before because I recognized her name," said Tina, the La Mirada resident who order food from the victim.  "I thought if she would have came out they would have shot at her, just opened fire and had I opened the door it would have been worse," she added.

Gutierrez said there was an earlier shooting at approximately 6:15 p.m. Tuesday near Telegraph and Colima roads in South Whittier involving a silver sedan, which followed a victim's vehicle for several blocks before ramming them from the back, shattering the victim's back window and shooting at the victim.

"We think it might have been the same people, possibly a local gang," Gutierrez told City News Service. Officials believe gang members are targeting innocent victims who are minding their own business.

No one was hurt in the first shooting and police have no descriptions of the suspects; however the driver involved in the first shooting reported seeing four people in the car.

Anyone with information about these shootings is asked to call the Norwalk Station at 562-863-8711. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online.
