Grad Standout: San Gabriel Valley’s water polo player of the year to suit up for UC Santa Barbara

She’s got the heart of a champion and the hardware to prove it! Bianca Borunda from La Serna High School in Whittier is San Gabriel Valley’s water polo player of the year. She scored six goals while leading the Lancers to a CIF championship.

“This championship was a dream come true,” said Borunda.

She competed at the varsity level all four years of high school and served as captain this year.

She’s not done battling in the water! Borunda is on her way to University of California, Santa Barbara to suit up for the Gauchos in the Fall.

Borunda admits she’s disappointed COVID-19 robbed her and fellow 2020 seniors of prom, a banquet, or graduation — but it can’t rob her accomplishments.

Her message to her fellow water polo seniors: “Stay home. Stay safe. Stay positive. And remember, we will always be champions!”
