A California Highway Patrol officer is being hailed a hero Tuesday for saving a kitten from getting run over on the 91 Freeway in Riverside.

Officer Jose Renteria from the Inland Division spotted the kitten next to the center divider near 14th Street, the Riverside County Department of Animal Services tweeted out.

It's unknown how the kitten got to the median along the busy freeway.

The little fuzzball was taken to the Riverside County Animal Services shelter in Jurupa Valley where it was fed and taken care of.

It's unclear if or when the kitten would be available for adoption.
