Beloved 23-year-old LA barber shot while cutting hair
LOS ANGELES - A family sought answers and an investigation continues after a barber was shot while doing what he loves in the San Fernando Valley, leaving him hospitalized and unable to walk.
The Los Angeles Police Department released new footage and hope it will help in the hunt for the shooter.
Security footage from the scene shows a masked man parking a scooter in a Mission Hills strip mall. He appeared to glance inside Prodigy Barbershop, located in the 15500 block of Blackhawk Street, near the intersection of Devonshire Street and Sepulveda Boulevard. He then disappears from the frame before he’s seen loading the firearm.
Moments later, Anthony Moreno was shot in the back while he was cutting a client’s hair.
"He told me he felt heat like he was really down and then he looked down… and that’s when he collapsed," his mother, Michelle Moreno, told FOX 11.
She said her son suffered nerve damage to his spine and the bullet remains lodged in his right hip.
Officials said the incident happened in broad daylight on Wednesday, Dec. 11 and the 23-year-old faces a long road to recovery.
"My son was working. He wasn’t at a bar, he wasn’t doing something bad. He was doing what he loves," Michelle Moreno said.
It’s unclear when he’ll be able to walk again.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help with expenses for his road to recovery.
