Off-duty LAPD officer arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Glendale

An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, following a two-vehicle crash in Glendale.

The officer has been identified as Ramon Muniz, 44, of Glendale, said Glendale police Sgt. Dan Suttles.

Officer Tony Im of the LAPD's Media Relations Section confirmed the arrest, adding "that's all what we're saying at this time."

The crash occurred about 1:45 p.m. in the area of Sinclair Avenue and East Chevy Chase Drive and involved a Honda Civic and a Mercedes-Benz, Suttles said.

It was unclear which vehicle Muniz was driving, Suttles said.

The motorists exchanged information at the crash scene and when the woman involved in the crash believed that she did not receive enough information from Muniz, she called the police department to ask for its assistance, Suttles said.

The officers later went to Muniz's home and "from what they were observing, they (the officers) thought the motorist may have been intoxicated," Suttles said.

The officers conducted a sobriety test on Muniz, who was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and taken into custody, said Suttles, adding that it was not immediately known if the officer was still in custody as of Thurday evening.
