Ted Cruz to visit southland for Kimmel appearance, fundraiser

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is scheduled to appear on the ABC late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Wednesday and raise funds for his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination Thursday at a luncheon in Newport Beach.

Tickets for the luncheon at the Pacific Club are $1,000, according to an invitation obtained by City News Service.

Cruz is also scheduled to appear on "John and Ken" on KFI-AM (640) at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Cruz's visit to Southern California comes one day after he unveiled what he called his "Jobs, Freedom, Security Plan" for restoring jobs, economic growth and opportunity, protecting constitutional freedoms, and keeping Americans safe from the threat of Islamic terrorism.

Speaking in Brookfield, Wisconsin, the 45-year-old Cruz used a quote from President John F. Kennedy to support tax cuts, repeated a call to repeal President Barack Obama's health care law and replace it with a plan that would
make "health insurance personal and portable and affordable and keeps government from getting in between us and our doctors."

Cruz's plan also calls for abolishing the Internal Revenue Service and instituting a flat tax; elimination of sanctuary cities; reining in the" Environmental Protection Agency; and breaking " the higher education cartel and create more flexible and affordable options for young people, veterans and those seeking vocational degrees."

Cruz said his plan for freedom is to "protect every right listed in the Bill of Rights," "stand up for religious liberty and stop litigating against people of faith such as the Little Sisters of the Poor," and nominating "judges who will faithfully protect our rights enshrined in the Constitution."

Cruz said his plan for security is to "identify the enemy as radical Islamic terrorism and implement a plan to utterly defeat it," "stand unapologetically with our ally the State of Israel, reaffirm America's commitment to Israel's security and move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem," "rebuild our military so we remain the mightiest fighting force in the world feared by hostile nations like Russia and Iran," "prevent hotbeds of terrorism from growing in the U.S." "support policemen, firefighters, and first responders," and "secure the border, stop amnesty and end sanctuary cities."
