Two young men killed following attempted break-in at Long Beach home

Two young men were shot and killed after a man said they attempted to break into his Long Beach home, police said.

The Long Beach Police Department received a call just after midnight from the homeowner who resides in the 1000 block of Almond Court located near the intersection of East 10th Street and Alamitos Avenue.

Officers arrived at the home around 12:15 a.m. and discovered one of the suspects who was unresponsive. The officers attempted to render and despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, Long Beach police said.

Shortly after, authorities discovered the second suspect lying on the street a couple of blocks away in the 1100 block of Gundry Ave. He was declared dead by the Long Beach Fire Department.

The men were identified by the Los Angeles County coroner's office as Jose Perez, 18, and Sergio Pacheco, 25, both of Long Beach.

The homeowner was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was questioned by police.

Family members who arrived at the scene were visibly shaken after learning of the shooting victims' identities. They told FOX 11 all three men knew one another and lived in the same neighborhood.

No further information was immediately available.
