Tyraughn: Catching up with this former youth from Wednesday's Child
We caught up with a former foster youth once on Wednesdays Child, 26-year-old Tyraughn. Ty shared the story of a dream day in which he was featured on a YouTube series called Sugar, produced by Adam Levine of Maroon 5.
In the series, a deserving young person is given a surprise visit by their favorite music artist. A country music event was set up all in honor of Ty so he could meet his favorite artist, Blake Shelton of The Voice. It was an emotional moment as Ty came to realize the whole event was just for him, to recognize his works in supporting other youth from Foster Care. Ty fell in love with country music when he was in a group home and the TV channel stopped on the Country Music Channel (CMT).
Ty has kept in touch with Christine of Fox11 is and tagged along on a shoot at Pa's Pumpkin Patch in Long Beach. For Wednesdays Child, many years ago, Tyraughn and his brother were featured along with the Harlem Globetrotters.
While there was no formal adoption, a former foster mother who worked at a group home where he lived became his go-to family and main source of support. Ty was also befriended by a documentary filmmaker and spends regular time with her family in Canada. He volunteers at Banning high school and is a regular advocate for other foster youth.
