WATCH: Now is the time to unfriend your ex, according to Science

It's time to unfollow your ex. Not just because your friends are sick of picking you up off the floor every time your ex posts something positive. Now science says to do it. If you want to be happy. A new study in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking found that staying Facebook friends with an ex- and giving into the urge to obsessively check their profile- can cause upsetting feelings and distress. Things distinctly NOT associated with *growth* or *moving on.*

Instead, study participants reported feelings of sexual longing and regret. Not a great way to start your work day.

Experts suggest that staying close friends with your exes in real life can make it difficult to start new relationships- and that those friendships could be fraught with attachment issues and hidden agendas.

Would you rather be happy or know that your ex got a bad haircut? No, those aren't the same thing. Go ahead and be the first to unfriend. In this case, ignorance truly is bliss.
