Effects of Hurricane Harvey lead to flight delays at LAX

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - Multiple flights out of and into LAX were cancelled Friday due to Hurricane Harvey. Many people coming from Texas were relieved they made it to Los Angeles.

"I was definitely nervous about the storm," said said Louis Cardenas, a soldier who made it out of Houston in time. He feared Hurricane Harvey would force his LA bound flight from Houston to cancel.

"That would have been really bad because this is pretty much my vacation so that would cancel out the time I had for my vacation so I wouldn't be here that long," said Cardenas.

Three LAX flights to Houston and two flights to San Antonio were cancelled Friday. Multiple inbound flights were called off too.

"As soon as we got close to the airport it was intense. It started raining down hard. It got really dark. You could see the dark clouds coming in," said Stephanie Pinto, who traveled from Houston to L.A.

That weather, also pushed airlines to help flyers change plans.

"They said get on the first flight we'll wave any charges," said traveler Allyson Price. Many people, eager to jump on those earlier flights to ensure beating the storm's path.

"I'll take an earthquake over a hurricane any day," said another traveler Stephanie Pinto.

LAX advises travelers leaving this weekend to stay in close contact with your airline.
