Fire fanned by winds burns through a Granada Hills home

GRANADA HILLS, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - High winds all over Southern California this morning, and those winds are causing considerable damage - especially at a home in Granada Hills.

A fire damaged a two-story house in the Granada Hills area today, but no one was hurt, authorities said.

Firefighters sent to the 11970 block of Elnora Place at 6:27 a.m. extinguished the flames in about 45 minutes, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Winds have knocked down trees and electrical wires in Northridge on Wilbur and Zelzah avenues, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Very strong and potentially damaging winds across portions of Southwest California will continue through at least today.

The strongest winds will be in the Antelope Valley, the Interstate 5 corridor, the Santa Clarita Valley and the Santa Monica Mountains tonight into this morning.

The strong winds in these locations will potentially bring downed trees and power lines. Winds will shift to the northeast Friday night into Saturday morning, and remain quite strong across the mountains and adjacent valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.

Once the high wind warnings expire on Friday afternoon for the Santa Clarita Valley and Santa Monica Mountains, wind advisories will likely be needed into Saturday morning.
