1 hiker dead, 2 treated for dehydration after rescue in Malibu
MALIBU, Calif. - Authorities confirmed one hiker died and two others in a group of ten were treated for heat exhaustion and dehydration after being rescued in the area of Kanan Dume and Edison Road in Malibu Monday afternoon.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said they received a distress call from the group of hikers shortly after 2 p.m. reporting they had run out of water and were possibly experiencing dehydration.
Jeffrey Sherman, 63, of Thousand Oaks died at the scene, according to the coroner's office, which listed his cause of death as "cardiopulmonary arrest.''
The public was asked to avoid the area while the department conducted the investigation.
No further details were immediately known.
