Disneyland closes several attractions to build 'Star Wars' Land
(FOX 11) - Disneyland closed several attractions starting Jan. 11 to begin construction on a 14-acre "Star Wars'' land based on themes and characters from the lucrative movie franchise.
It will include a ride that will allow visitors to take control of the Millenium Falcon, the spaceship from George Lucas' original 1977 film. Another attraction will drop guests into "a climactic battle between the First Order and the resistance.''
Stores and restaurants in the new area will all conform to the theme as well, including a reproduction of the 1977 film's famed "cantina'' bar.
Some of the temporary closures this year will include stations along the Disneyland Railroad, the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes and the Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island.
