Downey Coca-Cola plant evacuated over possible ammonia leak
DOWNEY, Calif. - The Coca-Cola plant in Downey was evacuated Tuesday morning over a possible ammonia leak.
According to the Downey Fire Department, a call reporting the hazmat situation came in around 5 a.m.
All employees returned to work after the building was given the all-clear by authorities.
No injuries were reported.
Multiple agencies assisted Downey FD, including Santa Fe Springs fire Rescue, Compton FD, Long Beach FD, Montebello FB, and the Downey Police Department.
Firestone Boulevard and Patton Road as well as Lakewood Boulevard and Cleta Street were closed earlier in the day but all roads have since reopened.
