Pomona police searching for woman who stole teacher's wallet from elementary school classroom

Pomona Police are searching for a woman who allegedly stole an elementary school teacher's purse from an unlocked classroom and made numerous fraudulent purchases on her debit card.

Police said that the woman walked onto the campus at Alcott Elementary School after school and entered an unlocked, unoccupied classroom.

The teacher returned to her classrooms and found the woman casing the room, authorities said.

The woman was "startled," police said, and "nervously" told the teacher she was looking for the school's office so she could register her son. The teacher, stating the obvious, told the woman that the classroom was not the office and pointed her in the right direction.

"The unknown subject soon thereafter left campus without registering her son," police wrote in a press release.

A short time later, the teacher noticed that her purse had been moved and her wallet was missing.

Police said the teacher later contacted her bank to report her debit card missing, at which time she was informed that four separate transactions had already been made and/or attempted. The fraudulent charges were made at the local Walmart, Mobil Gas Station and other nearby ATMs.

The suspect is described as a female between 30 and 35 years old, about 5-foot-8-inches tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds with brown hair.

Anyone with information about her identity or whereabouts is asked to contact the Pomona Police Department at 909-620-2085 or to remain anonymous, 800-222-8477.
